The CS Iris is a purpose-built submarine cable repair ship which maintains cables in the
"SEAIOCMA Zone" i.e., the South East Asia and Indian Ocean region. The ship was previously based in the North Sea but is now primarily based in Cochin, India in order to ensure a more effective maintenance coverage for South East Asian submarine cables.
Whilst the ship is owned by Global Marine Services Limited (GMSL), it is operated by the Indian Ocean Cableship Pte. Ltd.
Propulsion and electric power generation
A single, constant pitch propeller directly driven by tandem DC electric motors, reversible and variable speed, having a total rating of 5200kW and for improved
manoeuvrability, a bow thruster of 28kW and a stern Pleuger Active Rudder of 225kW.
Cable Handling Machinery:
Two hydraulic, 3m diameter drum engines
with maximum hauling load of 31 tonnes, each with
hold-back provided by two Dowty hydraulic, three wheel pair
traversing linear cable engines. Cable lead over the bow
via split 3m diameter bow sheaves.
