ALCATEL 1664SM ADM16 SDH Multiplexer

Features
• The 1664SM is an Add / Drop Synchronous Multiplexer
• Hi order aggregate bit rate of 2488 Mbps (2.5 Gbps)
• Tributaries can be 140 Mbit/s or 155 Mbps (STM-1)
Note: Tribs support electrical interface; no optical.
• Supports VC4 SNC-P protection between STM-1 tributary and STM-16
   East & West interfaces
• Supports MSP protection on STM-16 interfaces
All cross connects are done at VC4 level

1664SM ADM16 Card Description

• AUX card
   used for EOW functions
• Bi-Tributary Card
   Provides 2 x STM-1 bi-directional interfaces per card, (tribs A & B)
Note: Alcatel do not provide an optical interface for the STM-1 cards
   8 cards + 1 redundant in a fully equipped ADM16
• Clock Reference card
manages and provides timing for the ADM16 from external supplies
  and the SDH line
• Switch Cards
Manages protection switching of the spare STM-1 Bi-tributary card.
• SMEC Card
   CPU controller for the ADM16
• STM16 Aggregate Card
Provides the optical STM-16 interface to the SMW-3 SLTE
• Power Supply Card
3 units supply power to the shelf

1664SM ADM16 Protection Scheme

• 1+1 Fully duplicated Clock Reference Unit
• N + 1 Bi-Tributary STM-1 card protection (8+1)
• MSP protection available for STM-16 East & West interfaces
• SMEC (CPU) card can be removed without loss of traffic
Note: Traffic is affected if a ‘new’ card is inserted without following special
   procedures.
   3 x PSU cards, 2 can support fully built ADM16, (2+1)

1664SM Communications Interfaces

• RS-232 for F interface
Supports Windows 3.1 PC-based ECT (Equipment Craft Terminal).
• Ethernet ISO LAN for Q interface, known as QB3* provides access
   for 1353SH Network Management System.
